Photography
My interest in photography began at an early age thanks to the ramshackle dark room that leant against the side of my parent's home (well, for a while at least). Since then I've never been without a camera, but rather than hunt perfection I've tried to find a balance between effect and immediacy. As a result I've got a back-catalogue which is not only an excellent resource for the instructional books and articles I write, but I can enjoy each image.
Lewes 2007
Lewes bonfire night is a spectacle which needs to be seen to be believed, an otherwise quiet town in the south of England literally explodes into a frenzy of fireworks. The tradition harks back to Guy Fawkes attempt to destroy parliament in 160, but also commemorates the 17 protestant martyrs burned in the stake in Lewes. That explains the strong religious imagery (burning crosses) not seen elsewhere in the UK on November 5th.
Venice
It's impossible to take a bad photo in Venice, so here are some straightforward attempts to capture the life and sound of the city and its many tourist attractions.

Some shots that show what you can get out of a low light situation with a 350D if you put your mind to it. These shots are taken without image stabilisation or a tripod, so you'll have to forgive use of the standard 'creative' solution (mono and arty use of noise).
